Choosing a Lotl Name You'll Love

This is just a list to help get you started, and is by no means exhaustive!

Other methods of finding names may include naming by personality, location or themed names.

No matter which name you go with, choosing a name that suits your pet will make the bond you share with them that much more special.

Sometimes the unexpected happens and a name you didn't think of just sticks.

Some folks like to wait until they know the gender of their axolotl to pick a name, others choose something that is gender neutral or just go with what they see fits their animal best.

It's your pet and your call!

Still looking for more inspiration? Grab a baby name book, a thesaurus or hit the interwebs to find that perfect identifier for your Mexican water dragon.

Finding the right name may be instant or take some time, but at the end of the day it will be worth it.

Tips for Choosing the Right Name

Axolotls can live for up to 15 years, so you will probably be using their name for a while to come and want it to be good.

(No pressure ;) )

If the name is hard to say, it might be a good idea to choose one that rolls off the tongue. Looking good in writing is one thing, but you'll probably want to pronounce it easily. To test this, try saying it out loud.

Does the name fit the appearance and personality of your axolotl? What works for one (even in the same morph) may not work for another. It's all about finding the one that fits them.

When you hit on that special name, you'll know it! :)
